Race for Recovery
Fundraising & Prizes
Fundraising Tips
- Set yourself a fundraising goal so you have something to push towards
- Know a bit about the HOPE Cancer Help Centre's services so you can explain the cause and inspire your friends and family to donate
- 'Like' the HOPE Cancer Help Centre on Facebook and invite all your friends to do so too, or RSVP to the 16th Annual Race for Recovery event and invite your friends to attend too
- Put yourself in the donor's shoes – when requesting a donation, answer the 'why should I care?' question for them
- Persuade the first person to make a generous donation and challenge all other supporters to match or beat their donation
- Keep the pledge form on you, in your pocket or purse, so anyone can easily donate at any time
- Find out if your employer will match your fundraising – an easy way to double your fundraising!
- Tell those who support you that once you reach a certain goal you will do something daring – such as shave your head or wear a crazy outfit to work one day
- Print and display the 16th Annual Race for Recovery posters or brochures in places you visit, such as work, the gym, salon, school, place of worship, doctor's office, etc – Be sure to get permission from the company or organization please
- Leave a copy of the brochure or poster on your desk or office door – time it around pay day!
- Email your entire contact list asking for pledges, include the Race for Recovery poster and website link or in your email signature include a line about your fundraising efforts
- Change your voicemail message to incorporate that you are fundraising for the Race so everyone knows you are raising funds
- Ask for a specific amount for a specific cause – for example: Would you consider donating $20 to support the HOPE Cancer Help Centre's Client Assistance program?
- Remind those who said no the first time, or said they would think about it, that you are still fundraising and provide them with an 'update' of how your pledges are going and how close you are to your goal
- Collect bottles and cans from work, family, and friends and pledge the money from recycling
- Create your own or a family piggy bank and place your loose change in there until Race day. It's amazing how fast small change can add up!
- Fundraise in lieu of gifts – if you have a birthday, wedding or anniversary coming up ask for a donation instead of a gift
- Host an event – such as a bake sale, garage sale, car wash, pancake breakfast, etc. – PLEASE contact the HOPE Cancer Help Centre if you wish to do an event such as these
- And ALWAYS say THANK YOU on behalf of yourself and the HOPE Cancer Help Centre!
